BIBF Launches First-Ever Master's Degree with Dual Concentration in Finance & Islamic Finance
14th September 2008

The Islamic finance industry’s tremendous growth potential has brought about a shortage of professionals equipped with adequate knowledge of the variety of products and their application in both the conventional and Islamic financial markets. Recognizing this fact, a number of savvy pioneers have set out to advance their careers in the field, only to find that they had no choice other than to travel abroad to such distant locations as Malaysia and the UK to earn post-graduate degrees in Islamic Finance. In the face of such inconvenience, many individuals lost hope in reaching their true potential; a hope which is set to be restored in March 2009, when the Center for Islamic BIBF and De Paul University of Chicago, IL (USA) push the beyond the boundaries of Islamic finance education with commencement of the first-ever Master’s degree with dual concentration in Finance and Islamic Finance—the Master of Science degree in Islamic Finance (MS-IF).

“The aim of the MS-IF degree,” says Mahmood Al Sheahabi, Head of the Center for Islamic Finance, “is to further support the Islamic finance sector, which is very much in need of individuals who not only specialize in Islamic finance, but also conventional finance. Graduates of the program will have a blended exposure, enabling them to gain a competitive edge in today’s diverse and globalized market place.”

An excellent program for candidates who have achieved a bachelor’s degree and would like to advance their knowledge and understanding of conventional and Islamic to an expert level, the 15-month program brings the world of Islamic finance straight to the classroom, providing students with an in-depth understanding of the important financial instruments and theories pertaining to both topics so they can confidently enter a team specializing in corporate banking, compliance, risk management or financial control upon graduation. Moreover, their preparedness to make sound business decisions will position them to become the leaders of tomorrow.

Holding firmly to its ever-high standards, the Center for Islamic Finance has announced that a total of 12 conveniently-held weekend and evening courses will be delivered by renowned scholars and other industry experts, such as Abdul Kader Thomas and Professor Humayon Dar. As a practical exercise, students will also be required to attend the AAOIFI Annual Conference on Islamic Banking and the AAOIFI Annual Shari’ah Conference held during the year.

Applications are currently being considered for the spring semester of 2009. For additional details about the program, please call 17 815 555
