Gulf International Bank (GIB) has recently signed an agreement with the Bahrain Institute of Banking and Finance (BIBF) to join other ten financial institutions in Bahrain in their quest to train and recruit Bahraini youth for the financial market industry.

BIBF’s Director Mr. Garry Muriwai speaking on the sidelines of the agreement signing welcomed this new partnership with GIB to support what he considered as a landmark Graduate Development Program. “The purpose of this unique program which was initiated in 2006, is to attract 100 fresh graduates per annum to be trained and employed by the Banks and follow their career development over a five-year period,” said Mr. Muriwai.

“The selected candidates will be exposed to structured classroom training in various banking and leadership and management areas by BIBF’s expert faculty. This will be followed by challenging-on-the-job assignments in the sponsoring Banks,” he added. “And what really enhances the quality of the program is the fact that it is supported by a mentoring scheme within the participating financial institutions,” he said.

The program is sponsored and supported by other ten financial Institutions in Bahrain and these are: Ahli United Bank, Arab Banking Corporation, Bahrain Saudi Bank, Bank Muscat International, Citibank, Eskan Bank, Gulf Finance House, HSBC, Kuwait Finance House, The International Banking Corporation.

“We are delighted to be a contributor to BIBF initiative – Graduate Recruitment & Career Development Program. Talent Development such as these go a long way to bringing the gap between supply and demand for highly trained bankers in Bahrain,” Said Mr. Hassan Abdul Ghani, GIB’s Managing Director of Operations and Admin.

Darshan Singh, Senior Vice President of HRD at GIB added “We at GIB are committed to building individual team and organizational capability. The graduates we have chosen and placed in this program are GIB’s on-going commitment to developing its people”

The program completed it fourth batch in January 2008 and the fifth batch commenced this week at BIBF.
